MANIAC LOVE www.1981bar.com/ML is an outdoor-beach party in Yilang, Taiwan. My friends, from 1981 PRODUCTION & 1981 BAR, plan this amazing project. I did all the visuals, graphics & website designs. Obviously, the basic concept of ML is LOVE & PASSION.(you can think about make love) I try to do a more trendy/潮 style identity cuz they have both hiphop & electo themes. I draw capital M & L with red, yellow colors. and then made them looks like a heart shape or a kiss or a smile. the main visual style is duplicating, filling & deleting ML small icons to create the letters. you can see the different combinations below. I also did a simple party website for ML. Browsers have to roll over their mouse to delete the icons and find out secrets. (actually, there's no secret inside = =)

Finally, over 1000 ppls joined MANIAC LOVE party. I feel happy for my friends n the lovers although i can't be there. 1981 PRODUCTION will bring more parties in the future... I won't miss next time =P

It's really funny & interesting to design a font. cuz u have to try many different arrangements to complete them even a single letter!! a good font depends on how u deal with shape, proportion, angle, line, etc..... Last year, I created a new font type which looks rounded & fat. you can see the alphabets. I also made my plastic-lasercutting-style card. =)

Today, I gonna share a poster which is abt a school exhibition from my friend. The short film is called "The Jumpers". The story is about passionate, hopeful guys struggle for their dancing career and dreams. So I mixed a breaking dance image and few rough materials. Finally, I made it looked like a painting canvas...

Everyday, we see lots texts. reading newspaper, shopping at boutique stores, browsing websites, watching tv programs... there're much texts including different font types. but most ppls dont recognize that how fonts influence our life & feelings. here are several great sites abt font types.

"TYPOGRAPHY" is one of the most important thing to a designer. cuz a good design must choose the proper fonts for each artworks. even design their own font types... Recently, I come out a font type, called GOLDEN SUIT, which is relative to Suited Design. i use a golden rectangle & a 90 triangle to develop the alphabets. you can see these below... now, i'm planning to design more different font types. cuz it's really funny and killing time!! hahaha

House Party = Macbook Pro + Coffee + Music + Works


Yohji Lin, a designer from TPE, works with me. He's a talent & creative person. We come out many good designs & ideas together. here's his Flickr page. (btw, he's only 21!!)

Suited Design is my new studio, based in Taipei & Shanghai. the identity of S.D. is combined by a golden rectangle n a 90º triangle. and it looks like a man's suit with a tie. the letters are also developed from these two shapes.(imaging that~) Me n Yohji comes out a simple die-cut name card. it looks like a suit or shirt with a flip collar. everyone has each unique image! Recently, I finished a simple showcase/portfolio of S.D. and then I'm going to build up our website soon......

Last December, My best friends opened a bar called "1981 BAR" in Taipei City. it's called that just cuz they all born on 1981 (including me...) the place is nice, chill and comfortable. Plays music genres from Hip Hop, R&B, Pap, Pop to Electronic, House, Mash-Up... u can find their photos on facebook & wretch and please go and check it out. I work for their whole graphics & website. the logo basically consists of triangle shapes, looks like 1981 (triangle 1-2-2-1). i use triangle concept just because they are "three" 1981-born partners...... and make it look like "trendy 潮". i also repeat the logo and come out a logo pattern. the following pics are the basic identities, logo drafts & event posters...

Well... It's been another fuckin' long time that i didn't write anything here... cuz losts of works, my laziness & much alcohol!! haha

here comes a house party called "Voyage". and it will be launched at 1981 Bar on March 14th. I did some images for the party quickly. just put some textures like splatter, smoke & lights together. and then added layer effects in photoshop. finally, completed each layouts in illustration. i love the oliver and red one. (client chose the cyan and magenta) I also love the mess curves on the capital voyage letters. (he dont like that) =(
